How to set the DVR's IP and connect over LAN, WAN, and the CMS PC client, plus fixes for no image, black screen, and offline devices.
Frequently asked questions about DVR network setup and connectivity.
How do I set the DVR's IP?
- Plug a network cable into the DVR's network port (the light blinks) → right-click and choose System Settings → Network Settings → enter the IP manually (for example: IP address 192.168.251.105, subnet mask 255.255.0.0, preferred DNS 8.8.8.8, or preferred DNS 114.114.114.114 (China Telecom); web port: 80).

- Plug a network cable into the DVR's network port (the light blinks) → right-click and choose System Settings → Network Settings → check "Obtain IP automatically".

- Plug a network cable into the DVR's network port (the light blinks) → right-click and choose "One-Key Networking".

LAN connection (log in by entering the IP address in a browser)
Why is there no image when I log in by entering the IP in a browser?
- Check the port in the DVR's network settings. For example, if the DVR's IP address is 192.168.251.105 and the port is 1111, then you should enter http://192.168.251.105:1111 in the browser.

- The computer and the DVR are not on the same subnet, so network access is not possible — they need to be set to the same subnet.
How to check the computer's IP: Start → Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Local Area Connection → Details.
(Use the subnet mask to determine whether they are on the same subnet. For example, with subnet mask 255.255.255.0, IP address 192.168.1.20 and IP address 192.168.1.30 are on the same subnet.)
- IE-type browsers need to install a plug-in automatically. 360-type security tools will block the installation of this legitimate plug-in, so please close 360 Security Guard and 360 Antivirus and try again. We also recommend switching to another security product, such as Kingsoft Guard or Kingsoft Antivirus.
When accessing the device within the LAN, the CMS PC client works but the IE browser cannot access it:
- If the device's port has been changed, you need to access it using the IP + port number. For example, if the device IP is 192.168.251.105 and the web port is 1111, enter 192.168.251.105:1111 in the IE browser to access it.

- Set the IE Internet Options security level to custom: Tools → Internet Options → Security → Custom Level, and enable all the prompts/permissions for ActiveX plug-ins.
WAN connection (log in by entering www.dvr163.com and using the ID number)

Why can't I connect successfully when logging in with the EseeNet ID number?
-
The telecom carrier blocks P2P penetration, so it has to rely on the central server to relay the data, which is generally less efficient and has a low connection success rate.
-
If you are using the 360 browser, please switch to the standard IE browser that comes with Windows and try again.

How to operate the CMS PC client
Why does double-clicking an added device in CMS to preview it prompt that it is closed or that the connection failed?
-
There is a problem with the network connection — please check whether the network cable connection is unobstructed and whether the cable is damaged.
-
The device's IP and the computer's IP gateway are different — please change them to the same gateway and subnet.
-
The device itself is not online — please connect the device so it is in an online state.
How do I change the IP in CMS?
- In the CMS client → Settings → Device Settings → Network Settings, you can change the IP of the DVR or camera.

Setting up the DVR for monitoring in the CMS PC client
If you are using the CMS PC client to access the DVR over the WAN, you first need to confirm that the WAN computer can view it through the web page. The specific setup steps are as follows:
- Settings → Device Management → Add Device → choose to connect by EseeNet ID number.
- EseeNet ID number: the EseeNet ID number found in the DVR's network settings
- Username: admin by default (use the actual username on the DVR)
- Password: empty by default (use the actual password on the DVR)
- Device name: fill in anything
- Number of channels: fill in as many channels as the DVR has
- Device type: if it is a DVR or NVR device, just choose DVR; if the device type is IPC, you must choose IPC

Why can CMS connect successfully but the preview has no image (black screen)?
-
It may be that antivirus software, a firewall, etc. have blocked the video data — please check and close the antivirus software, firewall, etc.
-
Please check whether both the main stream and the sub stream have no image. If the main stream has an image but the sub stream does not, you can restore factory settings on the DVR.
-
It may be caused by a problem with the graphics card driver. Go to Start → Run, enter dxdiag, then Display, and check DirectX to see whether everything shows as Enabled. If anything shows as Disabled, you need to download and install the graphics card driver.
-
The web port 80 may be occupied — change the web port to 1111.
-
If the picture is a black screen when viewed via the mobile APP, the CMS PC client, and the web page, the router may be blocking data transmission.
Why is the device offline after configuration succeeds?
- After adding a device via hotspot configuration, there is a period during which it reconnects to the network. Wait about 30 seconds; once the network connection succeeds, you can click Refresh directly or enter the device preview interface to see whether video appears, which lets you judge the device's status.
